Osgood

(Let me just note for the record that I'm very glad to be able to talk about hockey again.)

Chris Osgood officially signed with the Red Wings. He will make less than Legace, our current #1, but will definitely compete for the starting postion. Now I know some people here in hockeytown are Osgood haters and still haven't forgiven him for that dreadful pass against the Sharks in the '94 playoffs, but I've never had a problem with him.

Comparing their most recent performances (according to the Detroit Free Press website)
Osgood: 31-25-8 GAA: 2.24 Sv%: .910
Joseph: 16-10-3 GAA: 2.39 Sv%: .909
Hasek: 8-3-2 GAA: 2.21 Sv%: .907

Their career numbers are also very similar.

Now you may ask, what is my point? Well, Hasek and Joseph both had contracts worth ~ 8 million dollars. Osgood signed for less than 1 million. Same goalkeeping stats for 1/8 the price. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Welcome Back Ozzie!

Now if we could only get Datsyuk under contract...

I am afraid this season will all just be a "goodbye year" for the Wings. I don't think they will reach the West Finals. (Although we all know you will contend they will win all 86 games and sweep 4 teams straight in the playoffs). Yzerman and Chelios will most likely retire at the end of the season. That's the way it should be for those two... they had great careers and deserve to end them on the ice.

It will be VERY important for the Wings to sign Datsyuk and Zetterberg to long term contracts because they could be the future of this team.

I am happy to see Osgood back again. I didn't like him when he left, but it was because I didn't want him playing for another team.

I am happy to talk about hockey again too.
