The first thing I noticed when playing this game for the first time, it is a deceptively deep game. The players are cute and cuddly mii-style versions of the actual players, but what the game lacks in graphics, it makes up for in gameplay. The game is easy to learn, and a lot of fun. The hitting and pitching physics are excellent. Move the bat too high, and you hit a ground ball. Move the bat too low, and you hit a pop-fly.
Many people may find flaw in the fact that this game does not utilize the Wii's motion controls, but I do not. The way the game is constructed, motion-controlled hitting would be very difficult. (Plus I have The Bigs if I want motion-control baseball)
The create-a-player mode is very hit or miss. It's basically a text-based RPG. I thought it was fun, (even though I invested a two days into a character that won't even make the majors!) but I doubt that Mike and Adam or would enjoy this mode.
My biggest problem with this game is the lack of online capability. Which means no roster updates, no leaderboards, and no online matches.
I haven't explored everything that this game incorporates, but from what I've seen so far, I like it. The best way I can describe it is that it's a middle ground between Wii Sports Baseball and The Bigs, without motion-control. 3/4 stars.

From your last sentence, I think I should give it a try! Seems like a game I would really like, because I want something less "intense" then the Bigs, but more complex than the Sports.
That's exactly what it is. And I don't know if this is a draw for you or not, but this game has really in-depth stats. Not only does it give a pitch count, the game will show you your pitch breakdown by type of pitch thrown and location. It teaches you about your tendencies, and where your strengths and weaknesses are. I thought that was cool.
Oh I love the stats part in any game. That's my favorite thing about Madden. I always have to check and compare stats after every game.
Did you buy the game, or rent it?
Both.
