I remember with about 8 minutes left in the game, the announcer had said Dantonio and the players feel criticism that this team is "the same old Spartans" was unwarranted. Even though they have lost so much lately, this year, they claim, was different because they have been so close in every game. I turned to Stacey at that point and said "you know what, here's there shot to prove it. They have 8 minutes left and a 10 point lead with the momentum. Old Spartan teams give the game away at this point. If they really are different, they'll find a way to hold on."
I am DEFINITELY not giving up on Dantonio yet... it is way too early to do that. But we have seen nothing so far that is any different from any past Spartan team. They still give up big pass plays due to weak corners, they are committing way too many penalties (2nd most in Big 10), and today is more evidence that they can't finish teams off.
It kinda reminds me of when I was in cross country in 6th grade. I was a small runt compared to the other people on the team and I sucked. I came in last place every event. A lot of people tried to give me sympathy encouragement like "oh, at least you're improving!" During the last race I shut up, got serious, and raced as hard as I could. And I ended up finishing in 2nd to last place (I beat one of the Ford's). That's what MSU needs to do - shut up and do it. Don't put up countdown clocks around the center. Don't make excuses like "we only lose by 7 points now instead of 17!" Just shut up and do it.
