Taylor Twellman

Taylor Twellman, for those rare folks who don't follow soccer, is an MLS All-Star. He is an excellent striker, and is consistently in the Top-5 for most goals scored in a season. He was my favorite MLS player two years ago, and I was upset that he didn't make the World Cup roster. Twellman has a knack for scoring big goals in big games, and last night was no exception. Last night was the Eastern Division Championship game between the Chicago Fire and the New England Revolution. Twellman scored the only goal of the match in spectacular fashion. That was an unbelievable goal. It is difficult to execute a bike by yourself in the backyard. It is extremely difficult to execute a bike between two defenders. It is almost impossible to score against a professional goalkeeper on a bike with two defenders on you. If you haven't seen it, go here:

And despite all that, I have to say that I was disappointed with Taylor Twellman's performance last night. Twellman probably scored the goal of the year last night, so I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I don't think that he played well at all. I was disappointed with several players last night, not just Twellman, but I mention Twellman because I hold him to an international standard. And he did not live up to that standard. What I saw last night was poor passing, botched first-touches, and lack of field vision. A lucky goal, even a spectacular one, doesn't make up for it in my mind. I expect better in the MLS championship game.

If he plays like shit, and they still win, and it's because of his sweet-ass goal, don't you think that's enough?

Hahaha, you sounded a lot like me in this post! "A good win, but..."

You usually look at all the positive things. I dwell on the negative. Stop stealing my mojo!!! =)
