Snow is NOT Fun

Driving from Saline to Lansing last night was absolutely terrible. I don't know what the weather is like where you guys are, but we got about 10-12 inches of snow between New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The plows and salt trucks went through, but it was snowing almost continually throughout the day. (Sometimes blizzarding, sometimes only a little flurry)

So, of course I had to watch the Rose Bowl, which meant that I didn't leave for Lansing until late. By that time, driving conditions, as they say, were not favorable. There were a few stretches on 96W, when the wind picked up at the same time as the snow, when visibility was almost zero. The lanes were all completely obscured, so everyone just guessed. It was a like a big, long, slow caravan. Each car just followed the taillights of the car in front. (At least that's what I did) I swear, if the lead car had slid into a ditch there would have been a 5000 car pile-up. I almost followed an exiting pickup truck, not realizing that there was even an exit until the very last minute. The roads themselves weren't terrible, at least not for my car which gets decent traction, but it still took about a 2 1/2 hours to make a trip that usually takes about an hour.

I woke up yesterday morning to 15 inches of snow (in Ortonville, MI) and had a 4.5 hour drive home. We left around noon, so we had mild snow in Ohio to deal with. We got about an inch or two last night in Columbus, but the roads this morning were worse than they were in MI. One thing Michigan does right are snow plowing and road salting.
