Something To Ponder

The great thinkers and artists of the past saw God in their works. Of course, to search for God in a painting or a theorem is obviously to look from the wrong perspective, because God is everywhere. But to search for God in art or science (or a tuxedo shop) is simultaneously to look from the correct perspective, because God is everywhere.

Time and space are illusions caused by our inability to comprehend the whole. Everything that exists is part of God, and is therefore interconnected. Two atoms at different ends of the galaxy are still in contact with each other, no separation exists between anything. Everything is the same, everything is unified into one. The universe and all of its infinite contents are vibrations on the strings of the divine instrument.

This is what the mind struggles to understand and the heart yearns to touch. This is Zen. This is Islam, Judaism, Catholicism, Budhhism, and every other religion. This is astrophysics, string theory, and quantum mechanics. This is the point, this is the purpose, this is the reason.

Live each day well.

How were you not a philosophy major?

No seriously. Answer my question!

I have been asked this question before. There are several reasons.
First, what can you do with a philosophy degree? Is it worth investing the time and money to something that probably won't give a return?
Second, by the time I realized that I have a passion for philosophy I had already made the decision to leave school. I was in a mental state that made me apathetic to pretty much everything school could offer, including a degree.
Third, I've found that I enjoy learning and investigating things much more when it's at my own pace, with no pressure. Away from the structure of the classroom, I can study semiotics one day and quantum physics the next. On my own, I can follow whatever interesting topic comes along. And if I don't feel like studying today, I can take a break whenever I want.

Just in my recent job searches, it's amazing the quality of job you can get with just a degree- in anything. There is the possibility (a distinct one!) of getting a return, even with a philosophy degree.

I can't argue with your second and third points. They are exactly how I feel/felt. Except I finished anyway, and was quite unhappy the whole time.

When there’s sunshine, we’ll shine together. Told you I'll be here forever. Said I'll always be a friend. Took an oath; I'm gonna stick it out till the end. Now that it's raining more than ever,
Know that we'll still have each other. You can stand under my umbrella. You can stand under my umbrella.
