If you like any superhero movies, you will like Ironman. It is definitely formulaic and cliche, so if you're looking for innovative story lines you're in the wrong place. But what Ironman does, it does very well.
Robert Downey Jr. plays an excellent Tony Stark. (Ironman's alter-ego) I was a little disappointed in the villain, but not so much that it detracted from the movie.
The special effects are great, Ironman looks good. There are big explosions, fast chases, and a high body count. And there are several humourous scenes (a la the first spiderman), which were unexpectedly funny.
All told, it is definitely one of the best in the superhero genre. Here's hoping for a formulaic sequel! 5/5 stars.

5/5? Wow!
Now I'm not a big superhero movie fan, but I did like Fantastic 4...would I like this one? I also heard it got some big draws this weekend.
If you liked Fantastic 4, I think you would like this movie. I actually liked it more than the Fantastic 4.
No offense, but I am sick of superhero movies. I feel like it's overdone now - especially since they are making a new Hulk movie. Not a sequel, just a new one since people screwed up the last one.
I completely agree that the superhero genre is overdone. There are a slew of bad superhero movies. The Hulk, Daredevil, the Batman with Arnold Schwarzennager, Blade 2 and 3, Elektra, etc, etc, etc... (I did see a preview for the new Hulk remake. It looks pretty bad too)
And if you're not a fan of superhero movies in general, this one probably won't change your mind.
But if you like the genre, then this is a must-watch.
