My sister ran the Chicago Marathon this weekend. Her approximate time was 4 hours, 40 minutes.
It was fun to be in Chicago to cheer her on, but holy shit was it crowded! Getting anywhere near the finish line was impossible. We managed to see her twice, at the 1 mile mark and the 12 mile mark. Let me tell you, trying to find a single person of 45,000+ is not easy! Even with the whole family acting as spotters, we only mangaged only a few quick cheers. But we managed to provoke a smile at the 12 mile mark, so I like to think that we helped...
Running a marathon is something that I have no desire to do. I bitch and moan about running for 2 miles, let alone 26. But I give her all the credit in the world for dedicating herself to her training and following through.
Good Job Lisa! I'm proud of you.

That is quite impressive! Send my congrats!
Does anyone remember the marathon Mrs. Geisthart died in?
Yes. It was the Chicago Marathon. She changed her name to Townsend after she was married and moved to Ohio. Lisa knew her fairly well. (she was her soccer coach)
I know Lisa has ran in the "Townsend Trot" 5K charity race at least once. It raises money for a scholarship in Rachel's name.
So that must have been pretty emotional for her, yeah?
I feel like I know a lot of people who ran the Chicago marathon (a lot = 2 or 3). That is crazy though - I could never imagine running a marathon. I have a ton of respect for people that can, so congrats Lisa!
Yeah, it was emotional for her. It's not like she was out there "running the marathon for Rachel," but it was on her mind.
Adam, my Aunt also ran the marathon, so you can include her as a #4.
Apparently, the physical conditioning difference between running 15 miles and 26.2 miles isn't very large. The hard part is the mental stamina to keep pushing.
I know I could physically run it with some training, but I'm pretty sure I would get halfway through and say "fuck it, it's not worth it."
