The Thin Blue Line (don't blink)

-Blink-
Arthur Jones is in the middle of an extremely difficult dive. His mind is totally blank as he spins and twists through the air. Out of the blue, he notices how much he loves the smell of chlorine. He makes a large splash as he enters the pool, and he receives a low score from the judges. He smiles anyway.

High school senior Anne Riggs is watching her boyfriend board a train. He had just finished explaining to her that he would stay if she asked him to, but if she let him board the train, she would probably never see him again. As she watches the train pull away, she knows with absolute certainty that this will be the greatest regret of her life.

Roger Custol is one of the richest men in the world. He has accumulated every material possession he desires. He laughs at people who tell him money can't buy happiness....it certainly did for him. Sitting alone in his mansion, he holds up a brightly polished diamond to the light. He loves to watch it sparkle.

Clara Harrison is bored with life. She thinks that everything is dull, and nothing is worth the effort of achieving. She is pacing around her bedroom, frustrated and depressed at the pointlessness of her existence. She happens to glance out of her window, and notices some distant pine trees swaying in the wind. She is still bored, but somehow, this doesn't bother her anymore.

85 year-old Agatha Davis died on her back porch, in mid-stroke of her very first painting. She was by all accounts, a very successful woman. Family, career, social status, she had it all. But if she could have spoken in her last earthly moment, she would have said that her proudest accomplishment was the thin blue line of paint that stretched across an empty canvas.
