DJ Hero is similar to Guitar Hero (as one would expect), but it is definitely distinct. It's your job in DJH to make the turntable into an instrument, so along with matching buttons to notes on the highway, you are also prompted to scratch the record and control the crossfade. It sounds simple enough, but it gets very hectic (and fun!) trying to do all these things at once.
For those unfamiliar with a turntable, as I was, I definitely recommend the tutorial. It's a little long winded, but helpful. And getting to know the turntable is key, because there is a fairly steep learning curve to this game. Even GH veterans will need some time to learn the new controls, but GH experience does help somewhat. The hardest part for me right now is controlling the crossfader, (a lot of reviewers have had trouble with this) but I'm hoping I'll get better as I play more. It's impossible to get booed off the stage in this game, so even in the instances where I have trouble, (and playing on hard mode, this is most of the time) the worst that can happen is I get fewer stars.
The soundtrack in this game is great. All of the mashups are original works made specifically for this game. If you even remotely like this genre, you will find something to like in this game. But that being said, this game is not for everyone. If you don't enjoy the music, I doubt that the gameplay will win you over. But if you do enjoy the music, the gameplay is a lot of fun. I think this is the type of game where you either love it or you hate it.
But as for me, I'm a "love it" type. 4/5 stars.

I was intrigued when I saw this.
Best songs?
I have only played about 1/4 of the songs so this will definitely change, but I would say my favorites so far would be:
Queen - “Another One Bites The Dust” vs. Daft Punk - “Da Funk”
Bobby “Blue” Bland - “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” vs. 2Pac - “How Do You Want It”
Black Eyed Peas - “Boom Boom Pow” vs. Benny Benassi - “Satisfaction”
My least favorite is:
Jackson 5 - “I Want You Back” vs. Third Eye Blind - “Semi-Charmed Life”
I've heard the Daft Punk unlockables are really good, and I haven't played any of those yet. I'm also looking forward to the Jay-Z setlist songs, I haven't played any of those either.
I dunno, they're pretty much all good. The only one I haven't liked so far is the Jackson 5/Third Eye Blind song.
How much did it all cost?
$120 for the Controller + Game.
