in no particular order....
-Seinfeld
The most popular and probably the least controversial of my picks, it needs no defending. Everyone knows Seinfeld. The "show about nothing" re-defined what a sitcom can be and proved that great characters are funny in any situation.
-It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
This show is Seinfeld on drugs. "The Gang" can take any idea or premise and go insane with it, every episode is hilarious. It's mostly a love-it or hate-it show, it definitely plays to a very twisted sense of humor. But I defy anyone to watch "The Nightman Cometh" musical with a straight face. It cannot be done.
-Futurama
Not quite as consistent as Seinfeld or Sunny, but still great. Futurama quotes get stuck in my head more than any other show....I laugh at the story of the grasshopper and the octopus every time.
-The Angry Beavers
A personal favorite, but I can only watch this show properly with my brother. He is Dagget, I am Norbert. All Dagget has to do is screech "EEEEEEE" and my brother and I will be rolling on the floor laughing for 10 minutes straight. This is definitely a "you had to be there" choice, but I think I laugh harder at this show than anything else.
-Mystery Science Theater 3000
MST3K delivers some truly awful movies, but the sarcasm, insults, and ridicule make them great in a strange sort of way. This is the perfect show for a wise-ass. MST3K is best watched with other people so you can "play at home" and make fun of the movie right along with characters. Good times.

"It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV.
Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns, and also he got a race car.
Is any of this getting through to you?"
Haha, probably my favorite Futurama quote ever. "And he also got a race car." That puts it over the top.
Not a fan of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia", but I've only got a couple of episodes under my belt. You know how I first felt about Seinfeld, so I'm sure this show would grow on me if I gave it a chance.
Angry Beavers, eh? The surprise of the list! I suppose you have a special connection to it with Paul, but that is not even the funniest Nicktoon, let alone the funniest of all-time. But it's funniest to you...so I won't argue.
Question: Would 'Family Guy' have made this list if they hadn't come out with a bunch of new episodes and put it back on FOX? I remember watching the reruns on Adult Swim like crazy at Knob Hill and in Shaw, so I'm curious if the show hadn't come back and exploded like it has if it would have made this list.
Not the funniest Nicktoon!? What's better? Doug? Spongebob? Angry Beavers beats them both hands down.
The big debate was MST3K vs. The Daily Show. The Daily Show would make the top 5 before Family Guy.
I don't think the new episodes hurt Family Guy's overall standing. Some of the new ones, like the Star Wars special, have been really funny.
All of the old Adult Swim stuff is good. Family Guy, ATHF, Home Movies, even Space Ghost C2C....but none of them make the top 5.
My all-time favorite Nicktoon was 'Doug', but I don't think that was laugh out loud funny ("Banging on a trashcan...strumming on a street liiiiiiiiiight!"). Given the choice, I would have chosen "Rocko's Modern Life" over "Angry Beavers". That fat heffer got me everytime. And the grumpy fish neighbor! Hahahaha...good times.
It was just surprising to me that Family Guy was left off because you did used to watch it so religiously. I can accept it not being top-5, though. Wouldn't make my list either.
And of all the Adult Swim stuff...Fooly Cooly was my favorite!!!!! Hahaha, come on now, that shit was hillarious.
This post is making me happy with all the reminiscing I'm doing =).
Haha, FLCL is great, but it's not even really a comedy. It's a weird anime hybrid thing. I think it also helped that the only time we ever watched it was 1am...
I remember watching Rocko's Modern Life, but I don't remember it as being all that funny.
What is your top 5?
At Christmas time we need to go out and buy/download/rent both shows and watch a couple episodes of each. Then we will see which is more funny, Rocko or the Beavers.
Ever since your post I've been trying to think of my list, and it's been very very very hard. There are tons of shows that I think are funny, but I can't think of hardly any that stand out to me. Or maybe I'm just over analyzing all my choices...
Let me keep thinking...
And Fooly Cooly was a comedy, whether it was intended to be or not =).
I would totally do that if I could find them! Angry Beavers for sure, and I think Rocko too, are unreleased.
There are a few websites offering collections that have been recorded straight off of the TV, but I'm skeptical about the quality.
I'm very tempted though...
I went to Hulu and they have a few clips that are only a couple minutes long...but there has to be a place you can watch them for free offline.
I did enjoy the few clips that I saw of Angry Beavers though. I wish I could find more of Rocko to compare.
I shall keep searching as well!
