This is a movie that doesn't know what it wants to be. It tries to strike a balance between metaphor and narrative, and I think the movie suffers for it. I was expecting a full tour of the inner battlefield the protagonist creates to survive. But the movie only delivers a few glimpses of action, and tries to tell a story with threadbare characters and a lackluster plot. Frankly, I thought the majority of the movie was boring.
I also dislike some of the music choices, especially the covers of well-known songs. I generally dislike covers though, so that might just be me. There are a few techno-ish songs I like, (and surprisingly, I like the white rabbit cover) but for the most part I would have preferred a lyric-less soundtrack.
The only redeeming quality this movie has are the action scenes, which are very visually impressive. All of them are epic, and although they don't make a ton of sense from an overall perspective, they are a lot of fun in their own right. There are 4 great battles, each about 10 minutes long. Unfortunately, the movie runs for 2 hours, not 40 minutes.

Thanks for this review. I've been debating whether to go or not...I think I'll save my money.
And I like that white rabbit song, too. I'll add it to my playlist.
Probably a smart decision. Although you and I do have different tastes in movies, so who knows?
Not usually on these types of movies, though. I want 100% action with a movie like this, not 25%. A great story is like a bonus.
Haha, yeah then stay away.
