Unconscious?

Over the last few weeks I've heard multiple ESPN analysts occasionally describe a great 3-point shooting performance as "unconscious." As in: Jason Terry was unconscious from the 3-point line!

Has this term always been around? I can't ever remember hearing it before. Is ESPN trying to create a trend, or is this just the new slang?

Either way, I feel like an old fogey.

Back in MY day, basketball players were conscious. It was a good thing to be conscious. And they were only allowed 3 steps with the ball. And a loaf of bread only cost a nickel...

Unconscious has been around for a while. I didn't know, however, that the NBA has been around for the last few weeks.

It's definitely been around.

I never did get the implication though. Unconscious as in..."lights out"? Like a lights-out shooter? Okay....well then what does "lights out" imply? That you can shoot so well that you'd even make them with the lights out?

I'd be curious the origin of all these descriptions.
